As an outward symbol of advocacy and hope for counselors and the profession, ACA created Teal Day: an enthusiastic social initiative designed to build strong support, recognition and appreciation for professional counselors.
Celebrated on the second Friday of April, Teal Day encourages awareness of the importance of counseling and self-care for counselors as they enlighten their clients, colleagues and the greater public of the same. This movement seeks to solidly insert counselors in the national mental health conversation while simultaneously aiding in extinguishing the stigma related to mental illness. It challenges everyone to broaden their understanding of the life-changing impact of counseling—not only for the prevention and management of mental health conditions, but also in taking action to reduce their personal risk.
“Teal combines the calming properties of blue with the renewal qualities of green. It is a revitalizing and rejuvenating color that also represents open communication and clarity of thought.” ~Canva
The nature of the counselor’s work reflects the color choice perfectly as both encourages a calm, reflective mood. Professional counselors help their clients live in a state of emotional regulation; while the psychology of teal is largely believed to embody restfulness and mental and spiritual balance.
